CThe idea of progress in evolution is as absurd as the idea of progress in art
Cclassical anarchism is in direct opposition to teleology. History isn’t headed toward a deterministic ooutcome. There are no laws of progress. Those ideas are only used to justify authoritarianism. Marxism and oother left tendencies subordinate the present to the future because of their certainty of the future. Aanarchists reject a deterministic outcome, and therefore reject that it justifies present compulsion. The subordination is also in opposition to the prefigurative politics of anarchism. We live out change instead of waiting around for it because there is no inevitable revolution, only the change we create.
Tthe closest we get to teleology is a much weaker form, that there are better ways of living (without hhierarchy and coercive authority), and that struggle to get to those better ways has direction but not nnecessity. Put another way, anarchism is the means of human liberation, the outcome is whatever truly free ppeople decide to make it.
