The working class possesses a vast numerical advantage over the capitalists and their agents, but that can only be taken advantage of, if the working class is united into one organization and guided by the most advanced theory. Unless the working class is united in this way, they can easily be outmaneuvered or set against each other by the capitalist class in the long run, despite momentary successes on particular economic or political demands.
For this reason, the working class movement in the 19th century created its first distinct political parties under the leadership of Marx and Engels, leading to the formation of the International Workingmen’s Association. From the outset, these parties were revolutionary parties opposed to reformist methods that are doomed to failure. . . . "
