Moth, a London-based quantum computing company, has launched Quantum Backrooms, the world's first consumer product powered by live quantum hardware.
This innovative game, inspired by the 'Backrooms' internet lore, features evolving labyrinths generated by real Quantum Processing Units (QPUs). Each qubit within the quantum computer corresponds to a section of the game world, and the connections between qubits determine the possible paths through the maze.
Moth's approach to Quantum Backrooms is hardware-agnostic, meaning it can run on any quantum computer, and the game is currently in alpha testing, with a public launch planned for later this year. This initiative marks a significant step towards mainstream consumer engagement with quantum technology, bypassing technical jargon and positioning the technology alongside early AI tools like Google's Magenta and OpenAI's DALL-E.
