Many activists reflexively think of institutions as organizations--and think in terms of "building organizations". It may be better, at this moment, to consider a different kind of institution: one based on taking an existing institution (such as the Marxmail listserv) and finding ways to gradually move it closer to the kind of digital nervous system that activists need--with more people and a higher signal-to-noise ratio.
