German scientific socialism

A drooping rate of profit

Hard on the heels of Marx’s Italian article, Engels used the term in Part III of his work The Housing Question. It occurred in two passages.

In the first Engels discussed the Blanquist pamphlet of 1872, which, he claimed, “adopted, and almost literally at that, the views of German scientific socialism on the necessity of political action by the proletariat and of its dictatorship as the transition to the abolition of classes and with them of the state – views such as had already been expressed in the Communist Manifesto and since then on innumerable occasions.”
