In one of his last works, Bronstein refuted a then-officially favored Soviet explanation of the galaxy redshift discovered by Edwin Hubble. Instead of attributing it to the universe’s expansion, Soviet authorities claimed it was caused by the aging (decay) of photons—a theory Bronstein disproved.
