You meant to say the Soviet state, Tony. The Moscow Trials line was that Trotsky and the other Old Bolsheviks were calling for the overthrow of the Soviet state and the restoration of capitalism. Trotsky was instead calling for the overthrow of the Soviet government headed by Stalin, ie. for a political revolution by the Soviet workers and peasants against the governing Stalinist faction rather than a counter-revolution to destroy the Soviet Union.
