To believe this is simple. Just forget all about Karl Marx and the Manifesto of the Communist Party.

And since Marx was writing in 1849 it follows as concrete materialist reasoning this hegemonic imperialist power only got stronger and stronger ever since. This is also, actually, historical materialist fact, as the notion that workers would get progressively more immiserated soon got falsified as imperialism consolidated its global hegemonic grip.
Now maybe the head-office got some bright idea that inter-branch-office warfare would be good for business.
That's fine for all Marxist's who seriously love capitalism so much they subscribe to the ' Creative destruction ' thesis of some revolutionary capitalists. Not so good for those Marxists who prefer a Manichean narrative of Bogey-man bourgeois and holy proletarians along with a pack of lies about imperialist Russia since 1850.
