Matt Damon sacks large city on left coast

First up today, “this story is absolutely crazy,” as Manny Fidel says. “@maxwelltani uncovered a network of paid actors posing as conservative political pundits and disseminating AI-generated, anti-Dem misinformation on YouTube.”

Fidel links to Max Tani’s new investigation at Semafor, “Paid actors, AI writing: How a new kind of video business cashed in on America’s divided politics.” Realizing that going viral on YouTube could be a business itself, YouTuber Caleb Chan devised a new influencer model: ghost creators.

“Turbocharged by AI,” Tani writes, “these ‘ghost creator’ accounts appear to be run not by political operatives trying to win, or foreign intelligence efforts seeking to destabilize the US, but by engagement junkies detached from the stakes of politics.” As Semafor’s Ben Smith puts it, “Totally amoral, and optimized for its audience -- now with the scale of AI and freelance platforms.”

“It's the new era of propaganda, and it's going to be the death of us all,” says Ross Murray.

MUCK RACK

Meanwhile, Gal Godot is starring in a heavily AI-generated movie about the glories of Bitcoin, writes Victor Tangermann of Futurism. The latest, per Zack Sharf of Variety, “Gal Gadot Defends Starring in Movie With AI Sets and Lighting Because ‘You’re Going to Work With It or Be Out of the Game’; Lawyers Spent 6 Months Ensuring AI Would Not Alter Actors.”
