Tim Tebow is a regular headliner at Life Surge, a Christian wealth seminar that some attendees say left them deep in debt.
In an investigation with Pablo Torre Finds Out, Mother Jones' Kiera Butler reports that the company uses celebrity speakers, worship music and faith-based messaging at $20 one-day events to sell $97 "impact classes." Those classes lead to SurgeU investing packages costing $10,000 to $40,000, with a third-party lender available to finance them. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Butler interviews customers and current and former employees who describe high-pressure sales tactics wrapped in Christian messaging. Life Surge says it doesn't ask headline speakers to promote its classes, but in a 2023 recording shared with Mother Jones, Tebow urges the crowd "to follow through on that commitment, to finish strong."
