The Slánský trial was a 1952 Stalinist show trial in Prague against 14 high-ranking leaders of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ). The main defendant was Rudolf Slánský, KSČ’s former general secretary, who was targeted as the alleged ringleader of the conspiracy. The defendants were falsely accused of high treason, espionage, sabotage, and participating in a “Trotskyist-Titoist-Zionist” conspiracy. Prisoners were subjected to intense physical and psychological torture until they memorized and repeated scripted lies, or coerced confessions, in court.
