Trotsky totally abandoned the family name after 1905. Partly because he did NOT WANT to be seen as a "Jewish intellectual" and purposely rode away from that concept. For Trotsky it was important to NOT be seen as a "Jew" but as part of the Russian revolutionary movement. The same is true with Zioniviev and Kamanev all of whom rejected both religious and ethnic identification as Jews. They were "non-Jewish Jews" in this respect as Rosa Luxemberg was. They were not part of the Eastern European Yiddish culture and were basically Russified in all things inside the Russian Empire borders and the USSR
