Vance Boelter identified himself as a police officer when he came to the front door of state Sen. John Hoffman early Saturday morning before shooting him and his wife, that will have an impact on relations between police and communities across the country, CNN Senior National Security Analyst Juliette Kayyem said Monday.
“I think that idea, especially in the middle of the night, if a police officer comes to your home, I think most people will now worry about that,” Kayyem said.
“This is why over the weekend, law enforcement in the area said, ‘Look, we’re only patrolling by twos – in pairs if not more – because we want the population to be receptive to volunteer information and they’re going to be very, very nervous about this,’” she said.
Boelter came to the state senator’s front door wearing a badge, according to a criminal complaint obtained by CNN.
