Hari Kunzru has identified as left-leaning and acknowledges the influence of Marxist thought, particularly in his analysis of societal issues and economic structures. However, he also criticizes what he sees as a simplistic or "crude Marxist" view of markets, arguing that markets are not inherently capitalist and capitalism is not inherently bad. The Guardian reports that while he doesn't identify as a Marxist, his perspective has shifted towards the left. A Public Books article notes that he sees himself as a left-leaning individual but critiques the Left's sometimes overly simplistic understanding of markets.
