Aldrich Ames, the most damaging CIA traitor in the agency’s history, died on Jan. 5 at the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland. He was 84. Former Washington Post reporter Walter Pincus, who interviewed Ames at the Alexandria, Virginia, jail nine weeks after his arrest, writes that Ames’ spying for Moscow reportedly caused the deaths of at least 10 recruited CIA or allied intelligence agents.
